Liz and Chris Take a Trip

Check in from Ninh Binh, Vietnam!

Checking in from Ninh Binh, Vietnam, a small town just a few hours  south of bustling Hanoi.  Chris and I have been in Vietnam for five days now; it’s our second time in the country during this long trip for us. We each have a 3-month visa and our loose plans are to be in Vietnam for that long (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s in Vietnam!). We’re searching for 1-month apartment rentals in the Hoan Kiem neighborhood, just a place to call “home.” It’ll be nice to more or less stay put in one place and have a living situation in which we’re not constantly packing up every few days as we roam.

Since I last wrote in mid-September, we’ve stayed busy traveling and touring with friends and family who’ve made the long trip to Asia to visit us. Had a blast traveling with Breia and Ryan in September; we spent a few days in Bangkok and Koh Samet, an island off the south coast of Thailand, before flying to Yangon and starting our travel-intense tour of Myanamar: Yangon, Inle Lake, Bagan, Mandalay. Chris and I stayed an extra two weeks in Myanmar to explore some of the smaller towns and sights, though our energy was sapped due to a bug we caught while traveling. We still roamed around Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lywin, Hsipaw, Napidaw and Yangon but traveled slowly until we could nurse ourselves back to full healt. Once our visas in Myanmar were up, we flew back to Bangkok. I was ecstatic to get back to Bangkok, a city that seemed to me, after a month of traveling in Myanmar, clean and pristine – I wanted to kiss the non-betel nut stained ground of Bangkok! We spent our time in Bangkok at two airbnb condos to explore different neighborhoods. We took advantage of Thailand health care (affordable, accessible, pay as you go) and paid visits to the doctor and dentist. We got annual check-ups amd visited the dentist twice (once for a cleaning and the second time for cavity fillings). We also met up with a few college friends living in Bangkok. Most recently, we returned from a wonderful trip to Hong Kong meeting up with Amanda, Richard and Quince, who we had a blast catching up with. It was especially fun seeing how much Quince has grown since we last saw him. He’s a wonderful, fun, talkative, happy kid!

More details to come on all of our travel including long overdue photo blogs. Just wanted to check in from Vietnam. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the fall in the states. My favorite time of year!

Here are a few photos from our travel with friends and family.
