Liz and Chris Take a Trip

Long Way ‘Round

So today is the day.  I’m starting this post in San Francisco after a day that was quite a bit more eventful that anticipated.

7:20ish – Boom, thanks Amy for everything!  You are wonderful and we both love you.

7:45 arrive to drop off the car.  What?  The mileage that was totally confirmed beforehand and verified yesterday is no longer acceptable? Love the idea of supporting the sharing economy startups, but bitter taste there.  Also, best Brother in Law ever is now going to pick up the car for us (Mike, I think we owe you about 100 dinners when we get back, you like BBQ, right?)

8-11am, umm our plane broke.  It starts to look sketchy on us catching our SFO to Dubai flight at all.

11am: Alaska rolls in the ‘Make a Wish’ plane with the Genie from Aladdin on the side.  Cute touch Alaska, wish answered, we’re going to make our connection.

11:45: Our flight is like 95 in line, because our plane broke we lost our spot in take-off order.  Liz and I have just returned to stressed.

11:55: Asked Alaska Customer Service if they could start looking into rebooking Liz and I for the SFO Dubai flight.  They looked more and more concerned the more buttons they pressed and phone calls they made.  Not in a huge rush, so back to cucumber cool.

12:07: We just got bumped in line and will be taking off soon.  Not saying Liz and I saved the day for the 100ish Microsoft employees on that flight…..

3:30pm: Touchdown in SFO, departing gate is close and Emirates lounge is in the middle.  Holy cow, this day went from possibly really awkward to amazing.  Also, self serve bar and food in the lounge; Bombay Sapphire and curry, don’t mind if I do.

In other news, we booked a hotel for our first 2 nights (like 5 minutes ago) and Liz is finalizing some phone stuff as I type.

Today was a stressful day for Liz and I because of a few issues; it was saved by really awesome people doing what they could to solve problems.

Also, Dubai flight is slightly delayed, but that big beauty A380 sitting outside the window looks crazy cool and I’m excited to get on it and spend the next 16 hours exploring/snacking/sleeping/etc…
